Chicago Cubs Rule 5 pick Kevin Cornelius talked with us about his first season with the Cubs, what he hopes to bring to the team and his small town roots. And is Jeimer Candelario playing his way onto the 25-man roster?
The Chicago Cubs have seen their farm system depleted in recent years, but for good reason. They’re all in Chicago helping the Cubs win the World Series. But the team has done well in keeping it restocked with talent, such us Rule 5 pick Kevin Cornelius from the New York Yankees. Cornelius hopes to be able to bring a new attitude with him to the Cubs, just as he say Gleyber Torres do when he got to the Yankees.
The Cubs 25-man roster looked set coming into 2017. From the looks of it, most saw the biggest battle for a spot between Matt Szczur and Tommy La Stella. But prospect Jeimer Candelario didn’t quite see it that way and has at least forced his way into the conversation. Could he sneak a spot away from one of these two?
The Cubs Kyle Hendricks has continued to get better with each passing season. Last year, that finished with the NL ERA title and a third-place finish in the Cy Young voting. So while everyone is talking about signing players like Kris Bryant and Addison Russell? It’s time to throw Hendricks name in with those guys.
