The Chicago Cubs Jason Heyward might have gotten paid, but he didn’t leave his effort at the signing table. Heyward went to work on changing his swing right after the World Series ended. He’s hoping year two in Chicago will be more like it was for Jon Lester.
There was plenty of expectation not only for the Chicago Cubs but also their big offseason signing in Jason Heyward. On defense, he didn’t disappoint. But offensively he was a shell off his former self, struggling to do much of anything right at the plate. But instead of sticking with what didn’t work, Heyward WENT to work. He’ll have a new swing in 2017, and he hopes better results come along with it.
When the Cubs made it to the World Series, you were probably just like me. Holding out hope you could afford to go see them. The price tag was too much, but the results were all I could ask for. So how about the home opener? Eh, maybe I’ll just wait a little bit longer myself. As you might have imagined, tickets for the team that hadn’t won a World Series in 108 years are pretty pricey. This year’s home opener will be no different.
In not so breaking news, Jake Arrieta and his agent Scott Boras let it be known that they’ll be looking in the range of $200 million for the right-hander. Arrieta has been phenomenal since coming to Chicago and owes the Cubs a lot of the success. But a steep discount won’t be it. As this will likely be the last year for Arrieta in Chicago, it might be best to simply enjoy the time we have left with him.
