Chicago Cubs owner Tom Ricketts wants an All-Star Game at Wrigley Field. Charcer Burks is making a name for himself and Joe Maddon changes the lineup.
Yesterday, the Chicago Cubs dropped a 7-5 decision to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Addison Russell hit a towering blast to center field, his second home run in as many days. Many are hoping that the shortstop continues to build offensively on his 95-RBI 2016 campaign.
Meanwhile, back in Chicago, team owner Tom Ricketts is set to meet with city officials regarding a potential 2020 All-Star Game bid. That coincides with the estimated completion of the 1060 Project, the complete overhaul of the Wrigleyville area, including the Friendly Confines.
Charcer Burks continued his strong start to Cactus League play, as well. While he likely faces too many hurdles to make the big league club, his name recognition is no-doubt on the rise. Chicago’s farm system ranks near the middle of the pack by most rankings.
Joe Maddon is once again toying with the idea of batting the pitcher eighth, a tactic he employed for much of his first season with the Cubs. He’s also encouraged by the early returns from left-hander Brett Anderson. The hurler made his Cubs’ debut earlier this week, tossing a scoreless frame.
Looking ahead, the Cubs’ schedule in June is a rough one.
The team plays the role of road warrior, rarely enjoying Wrigley Field. Getting through June will be a big test for the defending World Series champions.
