The Chicago Cubs Convention has come and gone once again. Without a doubt, this one was filled with more excitement and fanfare than years past. We cover some of the highlights of this year’s convention.
Where do we start? The Chicago Cubs Convention was special this year. The event always draws in Cubs’ fans eager for baseball. But this year it was a different monster. And the World Series Champion Cubs had plenty of news for the fans over the course of this weekend. New faces were introduced. Some “old” faces were introduced in new positions. And the Cubs look to showcase their new look for the league as they hope to host the 2020 All-Star Game.
It’s been a long time since the All-Star Game was played at Wrigley Field. 1990 to be exact. But it looks as if the Cubs are ready to bring the Midsummer Classic back to the North Side. As the Cubs continue the renovations at Wrigley, the hope is for the city to possibly host the 2020 All-Star Game. Crane Kenney talked about the possibility during the convention, but there are still plenty of details to take care of before that time.
The Cubs needed to fill the void left by the departure of Dexter Fowler. So the Cubs signed Jon Jay, the former Cardinals and Padres outfielder. He was introduced this weekend, getting a chance to see just how Cubs fans are in early January. The reception for Jay was a warm one and will be even better if he plays well this season.
