The Chicago Cubs and the Chicago White Sox don’t look like they’ll be making deals anytime soon according to reports. And Dexter Fowler’s time in Chicago may be officially over.

After Buster Olney reported that the White Sox won’t be doing business with the Chicago Cubs anytime soon, the collective thought was “so?” Don’t get me wrong, Chris Sale is a hell of a pitcher, and I’d live to see him a member of the Cubs. But if not, that’s fine. The Cubs are young. Wrigley Field is looking really good these day after the renovations. And the Cubs will be a destination for many players in the coming years. Sorry, Sox. We really aren’t that worried about you.

The Cubs chances of Dexter Fowler returning to the team, have decreased a little more with each passing day. But the news that his camp will be looking for $18 million per year on a multiyear deal might be more than the Cubs would consider. As good as Fowler has been, that’s money that the Cubs will be fine with someone else spending this winter on Dexter.

The Cubs Javier Baez will represent his home country of Puerto Rico in the upcoming WBC in Seoul on March 6. Baez will be alongside Francisco Lindor as the two go from enemies in the World Series to Puerto Rico’s double play tandem. Anthony Rizzo is expected to play for Team Italy, and others may be joining their respective countries before it kicks off this spring.
