Like it or not, the Chicago Cubs are going to make some tough decisions down the road. In fact, one came mid-season when they traded two top prospects to the New York Yankees.

For the past few years, Chicago Cubs rumors have been swirling. Will they trade Kyle Schwarber later on down the line? Highly doubt it. Are they looking to move Jorge Soler and or Javier Baez? Again, highly doubt it.

At least, when it comes to Baez. Javier was a huge reason why the Chicago Cubs advanced to the World Series in the first place. His quick tagging and clutch hitting helped earn him co-MVP honors alongside Jon Lester in the LCS.

So with a handful of names on the safe list, what about the rest of the bunch? Well, sooner or later they will end up in trade packages. This is a brutal business. Actually, professional sports can be nasty but there are hardly any hard feelings.

For instance, take Starlin Castro for example. Yes, he was shocked when he found out that the Cubs traded him to the Yankees. But the letter he released to the public was a bit of a tear jerker and a hat tip to the organization and us, the fans.

Castro is still loved on the North Side of Chicago. No matter how many times he botched an easy play or chased out of the zone with runners in scoring position. Starlin will be welcomed back with open arms if he ever decides to return in the future.

What Does The Future Hold?

Now, let’s get down to business. With a crowded outfield, there is a possibility that the Chicago Cubs could part ways with Matt Szczur. I know I’m going to catch some heat with this article but I don’t like the idea either. Szczur has quickly become a reliable player off the bench.

Skipper Joe Maddon used him in a handful of games in 2015 which resulted in a ton of trips between the big league and Triple-A Iowa Cubs. Having Schwarber back doesn’t leave much room for anyone.

And with Baez performing at such a huge level throughout the postseason, Ben Zobrist could get some starts out in right field. Remember, Kyle Schwarber was penciled in as the starting left field in 2015 until he was injured.

Right now, center field is up in the air. Who knows, maybe the Cubs keep him on board and start him out in Dexter Fowler‘s old position. However, the Cubs are still interested in bringing Fowler back to the Windy City.

Next: Johnson a candidate to join rotation?

Honestly, Szczur could end up starting in the outfield for another team. Just like Sam Fuld who was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays. He quickly became a fan favorite with the Rays and had a bit of success with the Oakland Athletics as well.

A man who is a hero and World Series champion deserves the best. From his contribution to the team to lending things such as bats to teammates, Szczur is someone you want in your clubhouse.

This man deserves a starting role.
