Chicago Cubs News: Sweep of Phillies good start to holiday weekend
The Chicago Cubs used great pitching while the offense has returned in full force to lead them to a three-game weekend sweep of the Philadelphia Phillies and push them to 20-games over .500.
The Chicago Cubs‘ John Lackey gave a solid follow-up performance to Kyle Hendricks complete game allowing just one run over seven innings of work. Ben Zobrist remained one of the hottest hitters in baseball by extending his hit streak to 15 games with a three-run home run into the basket. Miguel Montero also added a solo home run, his first since Opening Night in Anaheim. The win put the Cubs at 20 games over .500 on May 29. Last season they didn’t hit that mark until August 23.
It’s never too early for trade rumors, and with the Cubs success, they seem to be right in the middle of many of them. One name on the outskirts of those rumors is former Cub pitcher Rich Hill. Could a reunion be in store for him and the Cubs?
The Cardinals will have to wait a little bit longer to get back Jhonny Peralta who cut his thumb opening a box on his birthday. His return will be set back a few days as the injury required three stitches. The Cards are currently in third place, 9 1/2 games behind the Cubs.
