Cubs’ Arrieta looks to lock up win No. 20 against the Brew Crew
If there’s such a thing as a “perfect storm”, this could be it for the Chicago Cubs. Cy Young hopeful Jake Arrieta (19-6, 1.96) looks for win No. 20 against the Milwaukee Brewers (0-7, 6.42) Tyler Cravy who’s making a spot start for Jimmy Nelson who was hit in the head by a line drive last week.
The Cubs (88-62) have been on a roll, and Cravy is fresh meat for an offense that’s looking to push towards that top Wild Card spot. But with Cravy not stretched out the Brewers (63-87) will have a bullpen day as they try to get through tonight’s game.
The Cubs have beaten the Crew in eight straight with last night’s win and look to make it nine. Last time Cravy started against the Cubs was Aug. 13 when he allowed four runs in 4 1/3 innings including home runs to Dexter Fowler and Kyle Schwarber. Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant but had three-hit games in last night’s win, while Rizzo extended his hitting streak to seven games.
The Brewers, on the other hand, have a fairly punchless lineup after dealing most of their offense at the trade deadline while they’re in a complete rebuild. Ryan Braun is one of the few left, but he may not see action as he may not play again as he prepares to have minor back surgery at the end of the season.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CT at Wrigley Field. Comcast Sports Network+ will have the television coverage while WBBM 780 will have the radio broadcast.
