The Chicago Cubs are still in search of their first Spring Training win, the good thing is that’s not what it’s about..yet. Joe Maddon‘s team rallied in the ninth, using a Matt Szczur leadoff home run to jumpstart things. A bases-loaded walk forced in another, cutting the Rockies lead to two, but that was as close as they would come. Kris Bryant also hit his first home run of the spring. Chicago is at it again today against the Texas Rangers. Jake Arrieta is scheduled to pitch for the Cubs today.
The Rangers are yet to announce who will pitch, but one that will surely not is Yu Darvish. The hopeful ace of the staff is out, and it’s possible that he could need Tommy John surgery. A team that had championship hopes has had them muffled early. Cubs’ fans should take note. Nothing is guaranteed in this game.
Amid all the legal battles of Ernie Banks estate, the Chicago Cubs learned that the bill for his funeral had not been paid, and the funeral home had filed a claim for payment. The Cubs immediately intervened, and will pay for the Hall of Famer’s funeral expenses. The $35,000 cost is more than the $16,000 in assets it was learned the Banks estate had left. Three months before he died, Banks signed a new will, leaving everything with his live-in caregiver Regina Rice.
