Oscar Night: Celebrities and the Chicago Cubs

There’s no shortage of celebrities that are Chicago Cubs fans. Some are fleeting. Filmed in Chicago, decided to be a fan -such as the pictured Taylor Kinney, who stars in the series Chicago Fire. But, at least in that case they chose the right side of town to root for. Others are deeply-rooted, true blue fans. So in honor of the Oscars tonight, we thought we’d take a look at some of the celebrities that have cheered on the Cubs in one fashion or another.

Gary Sinise

Sinise has no confusion, unlike Cusack, on which side of town is the best. He grew up Chicago, and can recall games on WGN, and the call of Jack Brickhouse. Once his father brought him to Wrigley, he became a Cubs’ fan for life. Sinise had the opportunity to sing the stretch in the 2003 NLCS as well. He also founded the Gary Sinise Foundation, which helps to support the fine men and women of our fine military.

Vince Vaughn

Vaughn was born in Minnesota, but moved to Illinois when he was young, eventually graduating from Lake forest High School. He’s an avid supporter of the Chicago Cubs, and can be seen at the park often during the summer. He’s also a Notre Dame fan, which endears him even more to me. If movies like Old School and Dodgeball weren’t enough, he’s a Cubs and an Irish fan as well.

Bill Murray

Born in Evanston, there may not be a bigger Cubs fan than Murray. The man has been a guest color commentator in the ’80’s, and was also in “This Old Cub”, the documentary about the great Ron Santo. during the 2007 season, while the Cubs were in the middle of a playoff run, Murray traveled to Florida to help “inspire” the team. It’s said he told Aramis Ramirez we was “very ill”, and would need him to hit two home runs so he could find the will to live. That year when the Cubs clinched, he was invited into the champagne celebration, along with another fan, John Cusack.

James “Jim” Belushi

Another native Chicagoan, Belushi is a huge supporter of local teams. He can often be seen rooting for the Cubs, Bulls, Blackhawks and Chicago Fire. His name is synonymous with Chicago, as his older brother John was the second half of the famous “Blues Brothers” alongside Dan Aykroyd. James has even filled in a newer version, playing the character of “Zee” Blues.

In Back to the Future II..who am I kidding. If you’re here, you’re a Cubs fan and very aware that the movie predicted the Cubs to win the World Series in 2015. Could the movie have predicted such a thing? Tell you what, if it does, I may even watch the Oscars next year. For the first time.
