After improving the roster immensely with the additions of Jon Lester, Miguel Montero and Jason Hammel, the Chicago Cubs aren’t likely to be done this off-season. The team is reportedly trying to acquire a big bat in order to alleviate some of the pressure from Anthony Rizzo and Starlin Castro, but some other moves haven’t been discarded yet.
Players like Jonny Gomes and David Ross – both who are expected to be glue guys and leaders in the clubhouse – have been linked to the Cubs in the past few days but the Cubs could also try to add another starter into the mix. While it’s true that there have several players that appear capable to take the ball every fifth day, like Travis Wood, Jacob Turner, Felix Doubront and Edwin Jackson – not to mention Tsuyoshi Wada and Dallas Beeler, – there are still some intriguing arms that could be had on short-term deals to further improve the team’s rotation.

One player the Cubs could take a look at is Brett Anderson.
Brett Anderson is more of a reclamation project for Chris Bosio. His main issue has been to stay healthy but when he’s over the mound he usually puts up some good numbers. His injury record is something that could be a cause for concern but if he’s signed to a one-year deal then the risk in minimum – if he fails then Chicago will have plenty of other starters that could take his place on the rotation.
Whether the Cubs add an arm or a bat, the general consensus is that they aren’t done making moves yet. If they decide to go out and add another starter, the open market still has plenty of interesting options that could bolster the team’s pitching for the upcoming season.
