Pregame Notes: Cubs battle Giants behind Edwin Jackson

After Tuesday night’s unusual win, the Chicago Cubs will look to pick up a fourth straight win – including their second consecutive ‘W’ against San Francisco.

Chicago (55-70) turns to still-struggling right-hander Edwin Jackson (6-13, 5.74 ERA) in Wednesday’s contest, which is ‘Star Wars Night’ at Wrigley Field. Jackson is coming off a loss to the Brewers at home in which he surrendered five earned in just 4 2/3 innings of work. In his last three starts, he has allowed 10 earned runs in 16 2/3 innings of work.

However, his counterpart for this evening, veteran right-hander Jake Peavy (2-12, 4.57 ERA), who was acquired from the Boston Red Sox earlier this season, has struggled mightily as well in 2014. San Francisco (65-59) won his last start, which was the first time Peavy notched a win since April.

Tonight’s game is slated for a 7:05 p.m. CT start. WCIU will carry the game on television in the Chicagoland area. WGN AM 720 carries the radio broadcast.
