Down on the Farm: Addison Russell HR, Kane County walk-off

Addison Russell hit a two-run home run and doubled to lead the Tennessee Smokies to their sixth straight win while Shawon Dunston hit a walk-off single in the 10th to lift the Kane County Cougars to their eighth straight win in the Chicago Cubs minor league action Monday.

Iowa Cubs
Salt Lake Bees (Angels) 7, Iowa 5

Chris Rusin allowed six runs, including two solo home runs in 6 1/3 innings for a 7-5 loss.

Rusin gave up nine hits and three walks, one intentional, and struck out three.

The Omaha Stormchasers (Royals) won, so Iowa falls to three games back of first with 13 games left.

Logan Watkins was 2-for-5 with two double for three RBI. Ryan Kalish was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, and Rafael Lopez went 2-for-4 and scored once.

Tennessee Smokies
Tennessee 7, Montgomery Biscuits (Rays) 1

Addison Russell hit a two-run homer and doubled, and Christian Villanueva hit two doubles behind Corey Black‘s five innings of one-run ball for the Smokies’ sixth straight win.

Russell’s blast was his ninth for the Smokies, he was 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored. Villanueva was 2-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI.

Albert Almora was 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored, Charles Cutler was also 2-for-5 with a run scored, and Lars Anderson 2-for-5.

Daytona Cubs

Rained out and will play a doubleheader Tuesday. The Tampa Yankees lost Monday to increase Daytona’s North Division lead to 2.5 games.

Kane County Cougars
Kane County 2, Burlington Bees (Angels) 1 in 10 innings

Shawon Dunston hit a walk-off single to score Trey Martin in the bottom of the 10th for the Cougars eighth straight win.

Dunston was 2-for-3 with a walk and scored the Cougars’ only other run in the third.

Jen-Ho Tseng gave up a solo home run for his only run in a four-hit six inning out. Tseng struck out five and walked none.

Dunston also threw out a runner at home from left field in the top of the first.

Jasvir Rakkar walked one in 1 2/3 hitless innings for the win.

Boise Hawks
Salem-Keizer Volcanoes (Giants) 7, Boise 3

Trevor Clifton gave up two runs and Ryan McNeil tossed up a two-run homer as Salem-Keizer poured it on for the win.

Clifton allowed six hits and three walks in four innings while striking out just three. McNeil allowed two runs on two hits in the fifth.

Kevin Brown gave Boise a glimmer of hope with a two-run homer in the third for his third of the season. Brown was 1-for-4. Charcer Burks, who was 3-for-4, triple and had an RBI, and scored on Brown’s homer.
