Down on the Farm: Kris Bryant hits 40th HR for walk-off win

Kris Bryant hit his 40th home run of the season with a man on in the 12th for a Iowa Cubs walk-off win in the Chicago Cubs minor league action Thursday.

Iowa Cubs
Iowa 6, Las Vegas 51s (Mets)

Marcos Mateo gave up a home run in the top of the 12th, but Bryant’s 18th homer with Iowa in the bottom of the inning gave the Cubs a 6-5 win.

Mateo allowed one run on two hits, striking out four and walking none over two innings. Bryant was 0-for-5 with three strikeouts before his game-winning blast.

Starter Dallas Beeler allowed three runs on six hits, including two home runs over six innings. He struck out five and walked just one.

Mike Olt hit a two-run homer in the third and also doubled to go 2-for-5. It was his seventh for Iowa.

Matt Szczur was 3-for-6 with two stolen bases and a run scored while Logan Watkins was also 3-for-6 with two stolen bases and a RBI.

Iowa holds a one-game lead over Omaha, who fell to the Salt Lake City Bees 11-8.

Tennessee Smokies
Tennessee 1, Hunstville Stars (Brewers) 0

Dustin Geiger singled in Albert Almora in the bottom of the ninth for a 1-0 Smokies walk-off win.

C.J. Edwards threw six scoreless innings of four-hit ball while striking out one and walking one. Frank Batista struck out one in a perfect ninth for his fourth win of the year.

Almora and Geiger were both 2-for-4 while Taylor Davis was 2-for-3.

Daytona Cubs
Daytona 6, Brevard County Manatees (Brewers) 2
Brevard County 2, Daytona 1

Billy McKinney hit a three-run double in the first and a sacrifice fly in the third for four RBIs behind Jose Rosario‘s fifth win this year in game one.

Rosario allowed two runs on five hits over five innings. He struck out three and walked two.

Ben Carhart was 2-for-3 with a double and RBI single in his Daytona debut, he was called up from Kane County Wednesday. Rock Shoulders hit a triple and had two walks while scoring twice.

Game Two
Justin Amlung allowed two unearned runs on seven hits, striking out three and walking one over five innings in the loss.

Wes Darvill was 1-for-3 with a double and scored Daytona’s only run.

Kane County Cougars
Kane County 4, Quad Cities River Bandits (Astros) 1

Trey Martin hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning and Kane County added another run for the win.

Starter Duane Underwood threw five scoreless innings of three-hit ball, striking out four and walking four.

Jasvir Rakkar walked one in two scoreless innings for the win.

Chesny Young was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

Boise Hawks
Boise 7, Hillsboro Hops (Diamondbacks) 2

Rashad Crawford hit a three-run homer for his first professional blast to ignite the Hawks to a five-run second inning in the win.

Jeremy Null allowed one run on three hits, striking out two and walking none over the first three innings. Trey Lang followed and allowed one run on just one hit over the next four frames for the win. Lang walked one and struck out one.

Jesse Jodges was 4-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored.
