Javier Baez making Cubs debut at Colorado, 7:40 p.m. CT
Javier Baez will make his major league debut at second base and hitting second in the Chicago Cubs lineup as they play the opener in a three-game set against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field starting at 7:40 p.m. CT Tuesday night.
Baez will wear No. 9 for the Cubs (47-63), who will send Travis Wood (7-9, 5.10) to the mound. Wood has not recorded a quality start since June 26 and has been winless since June 15.
The Rockies (44-67) will send southpaw Brett Anderson (1-3, 3.12) to the hill. He will be making his fifth start since returning from the disabled list with a broken finger, and has been masterful in his last three starts. He is 1-0 in those games with a 1.33 ERA and 1.082 WHIP.
The game will be televised on CSN+, and broadcast on WGN 720 AM.
