Pregame Notes: Cubs at Dodgers, 3:10 PM CT; Lineups and more

The Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Dodgers will both be sending starters to the mound who recently have struggled to pitch deep into games. But that’s what both teams are going to need today after a late extra-inning game last night.

The Cubs (46-63) are hoping starter Edwin Jackson (5-11, 5.79) can get his season turned around instead of keeping pace with a 20-loss campaign. The key for Jackson will be escaping the first inning without running up a high pitch count. Jackson threw 105 pitches in only four innings last time out.

The Dodgers (63-48) will be looking for Josh Beckett (6-5, 2.74) to push through pain and get further into the start, failing to make it past the fifth in either of his last two starts. He’s pitching with a left hip impingement that can’t improve without surgery, but with an already thin staff, there isn’t time for.

The series finale is a 3:10 pm CT start at Dodger Stadium, and will be on WGN TV and WGN 720 AM as well.

Here are the lineups for today’s match-up:
