The Chicago Cubs have called up infielder Chris Valaika from Triple-A Iowa to fill Emilio Bonifacio‘s spot following the trade to the Altanta Braves, according to reports.
Valaika, who was pulled from Thursday night’s lineup at Iowa, played every infield position at Triple-A, including 12 games at second base. He has played the most games at first base with 52 and just two games in the outfield. Valaika had a perfect fielding percentage at second while turning seven double plays.
Valaika has hit .278/.344/.423 with 21 doubles and 10 home runs for 50 RBI in 352 at-bats this season.
The 28-year-old played in 19 spring training games for the Cubs in Mesa and went 9-for-40. He played 22 games for the Miami Marlins last season and batted .219 with nine RBIs and one home run.
