Chicago Cubs place LHP Felix Doubront on DL with calf strain

The Chicago Cubs have placed recently acquired left-handed starter Felix Doubront on the disabled list with a calf strain, general manager Jed Hoyer told the media Thursday afternoon.

The Red Sox will get a low-level prospect after the Rule 5 draft for Doubront.

Doubront struggled with the Red Sox this year, going 2-4 with a 5.19 ERA in 10 starts before moving to the bullpen June 24. He surrendered 11 earned runs on 15 hits in nine innings as a reliever.

The Cubs currently do not have a rotation spot for Doubront with Kyle Hendricks and Tsuyoshia Wada filling in after Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel were dealt on July 4.
