7/21 Morning Marquee: Anthony Rizzo ties career HR total, MLB trade deadline looms

ByBrandon Cain|

Anthony Rizzo tied his career high home run total with his 23rd of the season, and made an incredible diving catch into the camera well, but the Chicago Cubs fell 3-2 and the Diamondbacks completed the three-game sweep of them to start the second half.

Ryan Sweeney also showed great defense, covering ground in center field and also making a diving catch to rob Paul Goldschmidt of a two-run extra-base hit in the later innings.

The Cubs have an off day Monday before hosting the San Diego Padres in a three-game series at Wrigley Field.

Around the league this week: the Astros failed to sign the number one overall pick Brady Aiken, the Padres traded away their ace Huston Street in a six-player deal with the Angels, Reds interested in Marlon Byrd and Antonio Bastardo, and A.J. Burnett trade rumors began to swirl.
