Pregame Notes: Braves at Cubs; 1:20 p.m. CT, Lineups and More

The Braves scored 11 runs on Saturday to halt the Chicago Cubs’ chances of a weekend series sweep, but the Cubs still can secure a series victory in the finale on Sunday at Wrigley Field.

Travis Wood (7-7, 4.64 ERA) will take the mound for the Cubs, while Atlanta, will look to close out the first half on top of the National League East with All-Star Julio Teheran (8-6, 2.57 ERA).

Wood struck out five and walked two over five and one-third innings in his last outing against the Cincinnati Reds. The left-hander has not recorded a win since June 15 against the Pittsburgh Pirates when he allowed just three hits and struck out six over eight innings.

Chris Coghlan will lead off for the Cubs, who is 4-for-6 with four RBI and two walks in the series thus far. Recent call up Arismendy Alcantara moves to the number two spot after going 2-for-5 in the lead off spot Saturday. Luis Valbuena, third base, and Ryan Sweeney, center field, will make their first starts in the series.

Teheran is coming off an 11-hit outing where he only last three and one-third innings against the New York Mets. Prior to that outing, the right-hander had not pitched less than six innings, including three straight seven inning performances.

The Braves’ lineup largely stays the same with one exception — Tommy La Stella playing second base. The team announced via Twitter prior to the game that All-Star Dan Uggla received a one-game suspension.
