The Chicago Cubs released left-handed pitcher Jonathan Sanchez on Friday, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Sanchez, 31, singed a minor league deal in December with the Cubs, but the southpaw only pitched 2/3 of an inning for Triple-A Iowa on April 4. In 2013, he went 0-3 with an 11.85 ERA over 13 2/3 innings for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
After being traded from the San Francisco Giants following the 2011 season, his ERA shot up to 8.73 ERA over 78 1/3 innings with the Kansas City Royals, Colorado Rockies, and Pirates. Over his eight-year career he is 39-58 with a 4.70 ERA, 437 walks, and 796 strikeouts in 786 1/3 innings.
