Short-season: Boise Hawks 6 – Tri-City Dust Devils 2 (F)

A five-run second inning helped the Boise Hawks cruise to an easy win on Sunday over the Tri-City Dust Devils in short-season affiliate play, thanks to a two-RBI game from outfielder Jeffrey Baez and a four-hit night by first baseman Daniel Canela.

With Boise leading 3-0 in the second after a two-run single by Alex Tomasovich and a sacrifice fly by Jesse Hodges, Baez cracked a two-run shot, his third of the season, giving Boise a commanding 5-0 lead early on.

Tri-City (7-10) answered with a run in the third, scored on a wild pitch by Hawks starter Trevor Graham (2-1, 5.14 ERA). Graham allowed two unearned runs in six innings of work, scattering just three hits and two walks while striking out four.

The Dust Devils added another run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly, but that would be the last time Tri-City produced a run.

A run-scoring fielder’s choice in the top of the ninth added an insurance run for Boise (7-10), and Sam Wilson notched his first save of the season as the Hawks picked up the ‘W.’
