Pregame Notes: Cubs look to ride momentum from walk-off win

Following last night’s walk-off victory, the Chicago Cubs (21-34) will turn to Edwin Jackson (3-5, 4.81) to hopefully get a series win against a New York Mets (28-30) team that was 7-3 in their last 10 games before last night’s loss.

Jackson finished the month of May with a record of 1-3, but he actually pitched better than that record represents, as his ERA was near almost a full run better (4.30) than it was in April (5.24). He pitched well in almost every start except for one, a four-inning, eight-run hammering by the San Diego Padres. He allowed only six runs in 25 1/3 innings in his other starts.

Daisuke Matsuzaka (2-0, 2.45) joined the Mets’ rotation after being a wild-card off sorts for manager Terry Collins. He had spent most of the season in the bullpen, even earning a save before getting his first start on May 25th.

Chris Coghlan will get the start in left field tonight after tying the game last night with his first home run of the season.

The game is a 7:05 p.m. first pitch, and will be carried on WGN TV as well as broadcast on WGN 720 AM.
