Down on the Farm: Arismendy Alcantara, Javier Baez combine for 5 RBIs in Iowa win

Javier Baez and Arismendy Alcantara combined for five RBIs for a 12-3 Iowa win while Jordan Hankins hit a walk-off win for Kane County at home Monday night.

Here is Monday’s action around the Chicago Cubs’ minor league affiliates.

Final: Iowa 12, Colorado Springs Sky Sox (Rockies) 3
Javier Baez hit two doubles and a single for three RBIs to lead the Iowa Cubs (27-21) to a 12-3 win over the Sky Sox at Principal Park.

Eric Jokisch (4-4) held the Sky Sox (23-27) scoreless until the fifth when he gave up his only earned run while striking out four and walking one over 8 1/3 innings.

Baez doubled and Chris Valaika sacrifice fly scored two runs in the first for a two run lead then Baez sacrifice fly scored Arismendy Alcantara, who tripled to lead off the third for a 3-0 lead.

Alcantara drew a walk, stole third and Baez took second before Valaika singled in another run. Logan Watkins hit a two-run single three batters later before Jokisch added the fifth run of the inning for a 8-1 lead.

Alcantara and Baez added RBI doubles and Christian Villanueva chipped in a RBI single for a 12-1 lead before Iowa reliever Frank Batista gave up a two-run home run.

Final: Huntsville Stars (Brewers) 5, Smokies 4
Rafael Lopez singled to give the Smokies a 4-3 into the bottom of the ninth then P.J. Francescon gave up a two-out double for a 5-4 walkoff win for the Stars (34-17) over the Smokies at Joe W. Davis Municipal Stadium.

Kris Bryant solo home run to left-center gave the Smokies (26-24) a 1-0 lead in the first.

Dustin Geiger singled, advanced to third, and scored on another error then Jeudy Valdez sacrifice fly increased the Smokies’ lead to 3-0 after the second.

Both sides remained scoreless until Joel Pineiro (2-0) gave up a two-run home run in the fifth and a solo home run in the sixth to tie it 3-3.

Pinerio allowed three earned runs on eight hits, striking out two and walking one over 6 1/3 innings.

Bryant went 2-for-3 with solo home run, Geiger 1-for-4 with two runs and Jae-Hoon Ha was also 1-for-4 with one run.

Daytona Cubs
Daytona (19-29) was off today and will begin a four-game series against Palm Beach Cardinals (23-27) Tuesday night at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

Final: Kane County 5, Peoria Chiefs (Cardinals) 4
Jordan Hankins hit a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the 11th for a 5-4 Cougars (34-17) win over the Chiefs (27-23) at Fifth Third Ballpark.

Jacob Rogers hit a solo home run to right for a 1-0 lead in the second.

Justin Amlung and Michael Heesch allowed three earned runs, one by Amlung in the fourth and two by Heesch in the seventh to trail 3-1 heading into the bottom of the ninth.

Rogers singled to right to score Ben Carhart and Yasiel Balaguert, who singled themselves in the inning. Cael Brockmeyer struck out swinging before Cougars manager Mark Johnson was ejected by home plate umpire Josh Root.

Danny Lockhart singled to center to load the bases before David Bote was hit by a pitch to walk in, Trey Martin, the game-tying run.

Rogers became the second ejected by Root in the top of the 11th. Arias entered and gave up a double, a walk before a sacrifice fly plated the go-ahead run.

Amlung gave up one earned run on four hits while striking out four and walking one over five innings. Heesch gave up two earned runs on two hits over 1 1/3 before James Pugliese allowed just two hits over three innings and Arias picked up the win over 1 2/3 while allowing one earned run, striking out one and walking one.

Rogers went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and one run, Lockhart 2-for-5 while Bote did not record a hit but had two RBIs.
