There was plenty of news around the league during the Chicago Cubs off day while they await their two-game set against the New York Yankees.
The Cubs will start their two-game series against the Yankees Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. CT on CSN. Jason Hammel (4-2, 3.06 ERA) will take the mound for the Cubs while Masahiro Tanaka (6-0, 2.17 ERA) will look to stay undefeated for the Yankees.
Cubs’ prospect Kyle Hendricks was named Pacific Coast League pitcher of the week and another pitching prospect Pierce Johnson is ready to make some noise.
Around the league: the Reds have not decided whether they will place All-Star Joey Votto on the DL, Jason Motte will be activated by the Cardinals, and the Marlins signed Miguel Tejada and released ex-Cub Carlos Marmol.
