The Chicago Cubs game against the St. Louis Cardinals was postponed due to inclement weather. The two teams will play a doubleheader on August 30 in St. Louis. The Cubs also activated ex-closer Jose Veras from his rehab start at Double-A and placed left-handed reliever Zac Rosscup on the disabled list, retroactive May 10.
In minor league action, Tim Saunders hit a grand slam to lift Class-A Advanced Daytona to a comeback win while the red-hot Class-A Kane County Cougars fell in a pitching duel.
Around the league: the Atlanta Braves released the first renderings of their new ballpark, New York Yankees’ ace Masahiro Tanaka tossed a four-hitter in his first major league shutout, MLB changed the call on the controversial play that cost Yu Darvish a no-hitter, and Brewers’ Carlos Gomez dropped his appeal and began serving a three-game suspension for throwing a punch during a fight against the Pirates last month.
