Next up we have the struggling Daytona Cubs. Daytona hasn’t pitched or hit all that well this season which is the main reason why they entered the game with a 9-17 record. Well that and more than a handful of their games were postponed.

They have a ton of makeup dates waiting to be announced. But tonight’s outing appeared to be different. No they were not able to put up a large amount of runs or hits, but their pitching staff brought their A-game. The Cubs would hold a 1-0 lead until the top of the eighth inning.

Starting pitcher Felix Pena would make it through six innings before he would be removed. He only allowed one hit, issued one walk and struck out three batters before he was replaced by Michael Jensen. Jensen worked two innings before the ball was handed off to the next guy but was the man who allowed the Flying Tigers to tie up the ballgame.

This game would go into extra innings until the Cubs were able to pick up a walk-off win off a home run by Jeimer Candelario. It was his only hit of the game, and it couldn’t have come at a better time for the Cubs.

Winning pitcher tonight is Stephen Perakslis (1-0, 4.63 ERA), losing pitcher is Alex Burgos (0-1, 8.10 ERA).

Final Score: Cubs 2, Flying Tigers 1.

Daytona Cubs jump to 10-17 on the season.
