Justin Ruggiano went 3-for-3 with a home run off Tyler Thornburg in the first inning and Justin Grimm worked out of a bases-loaded jam to earn the save as the Chicago Cubs (5-6) held on for a 10-8 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers in Cactus League play on Sunday afternoon.

Cubs outfielder Ryan Sweeney left the game with what the Cubs announced as right knee soreness and Rick Renteria is not daunted by the NL Central Division.

Around the league, the St. Louis Cardinals signed Cuban free-agent shortstop Aledmys Diaz to a major league deal shortly after they gave Matt Carpenter a six-year deal, the Los Angeles Dodgers named Clayton Kershaw and Hyun-Jin Ryu starters for the first two games this season in Australia against the Arizona Diamondbacks, and the Minnesota Twins are showing interest in the Chicago White Sox outfielder Alejandro De Aza.
