Chicago Cubs President Theo Epstien, General Manager Jed Hoyer, and Manager Rick Renteria held their annual Spring presser Thursday in Mesa.

During the presser, the three made some main points: Jason Hammel and James McDonald are now officially signed to one-year contracts, Jake Arrieta has some should “tightness” and will not start throwing right away, Carlos Villanueva will be “stretched out” to start in camp, Arodys Vizcaino is healthy and could have a shot at this year’s bullpen, Starlin Castro “is our shortstop”, Javier Baez will get some time at second and third base this spring, Luis Valbuena and Donnie Murphy will platoon at third and Mike Olt will have a shot to take the job from, Justin Grimm is going to be converted to relief, and Theo said the team will continue to draft pitching.
Around the league, Suk Min-Yoon and the Baltimore Orioles agreed to a deal and the Tampa Bay Rays traded three players to the Washington Nationals in exchange for pitcher Nathan Karns.
