On Tuesday, the Chicago Cubs acquired backup catcher George Kottaras from the Kansas City Royals for cash considerations and Wrigleyville Ald. Tunney proposed a new ordinance to allow the Cubs to sell alcohol on the new outdoor plaza. The 2014 Hall of Fame ballot was also announced and included former Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves ace pitcher Greg Maddux for the first time. Maddux joins Sammy Sosa and Lee smith has candidates with substantial playing time with the Cubs.
Around the league, the Cincinnati Reds signed outfielder Skip Schumaker and the San Diego Padres may look to trade Chase Headley if they cannot sign him. The Minnesota Twins, Toronto Blue Jays, and Colorado Rockies are reported to be among the favorites to land free-agent Jarrod Saltalamacchia from the incumbent Boston Red Sox.
