Chicago Cubs name Bill Mueller, Brandon Hyde, Mike Brumley as coaches

The Chicago Cubs named manager Rick Renteria‘s coach staff on Friday.

Chris Bosio (pitching), Lester Strode (bullpen), Mike Borzello (catching and strategy), and Franklin Font (staff assistant) all return. Brandon Hyde (bench), Gary Jones (third base/infield), Bill Mueller (hitting), Mike Brumley (assisting hitting) and Jose Castro (quality assurance) join Renteria’s staff in 2014.

The Cubs have yet to name a first base coach to replace Dave McKay, who joined the Arizona Diamondbacks on Nov. 1 in the same role.

Jaron Madison, who joined the Cubs as director of amateur scouting, has been named director of player development, replacing Hyde. Matt Dorey, who was the national and regional crosschecker, has been named director of amateur scouting, replacing Madison.

Muller was previously rumored as a candidate as was the return of Bosio, Strode, Borzello, and Font. While Hyde’s previous position with the Cubs does not align with the new position his background does. Hyde was a manager in the Miami Marlin’s minor-league system from 2005 through 2009 and served half a season as a major-league bench coach, under manager Edwin Rodriguez tutelage in 2011.
