Beeler, 24, highlighted his strong outing in the fourth inning when he worked out of a two-on, no-out jam to hold the score at 1-0. The right-hander gave up two hits, one earned run, one walk and struck out five over five innings.
Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant went 0-4 and outfielder Jorge Soler 0-3 at the plate. The 21-year-old Bryant was named the Joe Black AFL MVP during the pre-game ceremonies after leading the fall league with home runs (6), slugging percentage (.727), extra-base hits (15), runs scored (22-tie), total bases (56-tie) and a 20-game on-base-streak. He also hit .364, fifth best, and second in doubles with eight. Bryant joins Sam Fuld (2007) and Jason Dubois (2003) as the only Cubs farmhands to have won the award.
Soler is projected to be at Triple-A Iowa in 2014 while Bryant should spend the majority of the campaign at Double-A Tennessee.
