Cubbies Crib: Morning Marquee 10/17

The Cubs will interview Tampa Bay Rays bench coach Dave Martinez for the open manager job while City of Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel proposes more changes to the Wrigley Field plan. The renovations to the Cubs spring training facility in Mesa, AZ and a new field for Double-A Tennessee continue to be under construction.

Around the National League Central Division: the Pirates added a rookie-level Appalachian League team, Reds ace pitcher Mat Latos had elbow surgery to remove bone chips, and Brewers prospect Haniger shared AFL Player of Week honors with Cubs prospect Kris Bryant.

In postseason baseball on Wednesday night, the Dodgers continued to stay alive and bring joy to the Cubs faithful with 6-4 victory in Game 5 of the NLCS over the St. Louis Cardinals. The Detroit Tigers pitching and poor defense by the Boston Red Sox resulted in a 7-3 Tigers victory in Game 4 of the ALCS. Anibal Sanchez and Jon Lester take the mound tonight for Game 5 of the ALCS with the series tied at 2-2 while the NLCS travels to St. Louis for Game 6 on Friday night.
