Cubbies Crib: Morning Marquee 10/13
Day three of the post Girardi manager search continues on the same day that marks ten years since Game 6 of the 2003 National League Championship Series – the game tainted by the Steve Bartman incident and an infield error by Alex Gonzalez in the eighth inning as the Cubs were five outs away from their first World Series berth since 1945.
On a somewhat happier note, Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers put up a fight Saturday afternoon only to fall to the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 2 of the NLCS. The Cards now have a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series as they head to LA. The Dodgers have come back from a 0-2 deficit four times in postseason play in the 1981 DS, 1955 WS, 1965 WS, and 1981 WS. The American League Championship Series finally got under way Saturday night with the Detroit Tigers holding a combined no-hitter through eight innings. The Tigers held off a late Boston Red Sox rally to take Game one. The Red Sox will look to even the series Sunday night with Clay Buchholz taking the mound against AL Cy Young Award candidate Max Scherzer.
