For a few months now, since word leaked to the mainland that he had defected from Cuba, I have been hoping the Cubs would sign Yoenis Cespedes. This outfielder is expected to be one of the top position players to come out of Cuba in a long time. He would also likely be cheaper than either Albert Pujols or Prince Fielder while providing power numbers in the same vicinity. The Cubs could use a guy like this.
And if his play is anywhere near as good as his scouting video, recently distributed to wide list of international scouts, then this guy will have an entire wing dedicated to him in the Hall of Fame.
The video is unlike any scouting video you will ever see, is twenty minutes long, and is more full of win than some Hollywood movies. We need more movies like this.
If you don’t have time to watch it now, read what Kevin Goldstein has to say about it. And then watch it later. Or just listen to the background music, that works too.
The video is probably not safe for work, thanks largely to the… interesting… selection of rap in the middle section.
