The Daytona Cubs have beaten the St. Lucie Mets 4-2. With that win, the Cubs swept their way to a Florida State League title. They won five consecutive playoffs games on their way to the playoffs, a fitting way for a notoriously streaky team to end their season.
Congratulations to the Daytona Cubs. The Cubs Class A Advanced farm team has been a bright spot for the Chicago Cubs organization all season.
Dae-Eun Rhee got the win, Frank Batista got the save, and the offense pounded out thirteen hits. The Cubs trailed briefly after two, but immediately tied the score in the third. They took the lead for good in the sixth, and the usually reliable Daytona bullpen was its usually reliable self.
Once again, it was Logan Watkins, Matthew Szczur, Evan Crawford, and Justin Bour who came up big for the Cubs, just like they have been all through the playoffs. Matthew Cerda collected another hit and scored as well.
Once the postseason is over for all the Cub farm teams, reviews of the season for each team will appear on Cubbies Crib. Here is a preview of the wrap up for the Daytona Cubs: there is some good talent on this team, including some talent Cub fans should be excited about.
The Daytona Cubs are Florida State League Champions. Hopefully these same players can help bring a World Series Championship to Chicago one day.
