While the MLB draft does not garner as much interest as either the NBA or NFL draft, the MLB version still is as significant as any professional sports draft. In fact, you may argue that the MLB draft is the more significant draft than any other in professional sports. With the MLB, teams are drafting with intent of finding high potential players, thus giving the team added value for the future. Whereas other sports, teams draft solely for the immediate future and address current areas of need.

If you haven’t done so already, make sure to take a good, hard look at the latest from Cubbies Crib Minor League writer Luke Blaize. The article  takes an inside look at the players that are most likely to be looked at by the Cubs when they are on the clock with the ninth overall pick. Among the players associated with the Cubs have been Archie Bradley, Anthony Rendon, Bubba Starling, Francisco Lindor, George Springer, and Sonny Gray.

All of those players have high potential, and all will likely have some form of success in the next level. But if you were in charge of the Cubs draft, who would you take with the 9th overall selection?
