The Chicago Cubs officially announced today that veteran starting pitcher Doug Davis has been recalled from Triple A-Iowa. With Davis on the 25 man roster, the Cubs were forced to make corresponding roster moves.
First the Cubs out-righted Thomas Diamond off the 40 man roster to make room for Davis. Diamond, however, will remain with the Iowa Cubs. Diamond is off to a rough start for the I-Cubs as he is 0-3 with an ERA of 9.42 in 7 appearances ( 5 starts).
Secondly, the Cubs sent reliever Justin Berg back down to Triple A to make room for Davis on the 25 man roster. Berg was essentially designated for mop-up duty during his brief time with the Chicago Cubs this season. In 11 innings of work, Berg consummated a 4.09 ERA.
Doug Davis will make his Cubs’ debut tonight when the Cubs take on the Giants at Wrigley Field.
