Cubs Re-Sign Bryan LaHair

It is safe to say that many Cubs fans probably have not heard the name Bryan LaHair, or realized that he was a member of the Chicago Cubs organization last season. Well, here will be LaHair’s 15 minutes of fame on Cubbies Crib. As, LaHair re-signed with the Chicago Cubs today on a minor league deal.

With the Triple A- Iowa Cubs this past season, LaHair had a line of .308/.385/.557 with 25 home runs and 81 RBI’s. At 28, LaHair has been a career minor leaguer, while having one stint in the Major Leagues with Seattle in 2008, when he hit .250/.315/.346 in 150 plate appearances.

However, I find it kind of strange that we did not see LaHair with the Cubs at all last season, especially once they traded Derrek Lee. Because, LaHair had considerably better numbers than Micah Hoffpauir last season, instead the Cubs decided to call up Hoffpauir. Considering that LaHair is left handed, and the Cubs are lacking left handed power on their roster, you would have thought they would have given LaHair a look in September.

This coming season maybe when LaHair gets his opportunity with the Chicago Cubs. Considering that the Cubs essentially have no depth at first base in the Majors or Minors, LaHair could make the team as the primary backup to first base.
