Hey, Hey we got a Cubs Winner,9-5 over the Brew Crew in their Home Opener

Baseball finally returned to the newly renovated Wrigley Field today, as the Cubs powered over the Brewers as Nady, Ramirez, and Baker all had homers to lead the Cubs to a 9-5 victory.

The Starting Pitchers were Doug Davis for the opposing Brewers, and Ryan Dempster for the Cubs. The Cubs were able to chase Davis early from the game, as he only lasted 3.1 innings giving up 6 runs on 7 hits while walking 2. Meanwhile for the Cubs, Dempster grinded through 6.1 innings giving up 5 runs on 7 hits and 4 walks, while striking out 5 batters. The starting pitchers were the pitchers of record as Dempster earned the win, and Davis received the lose.

Offensively, the Cubs were lead by the two newcomers in Xavier Nady, and Marlon Byrd. Nady, went 2 for 4 while hitting a 3 run home run. Meanwhile, Marlon Byrd had a strong day from the #2 spot going 3 for 5 while having one RBI. Aramis Ramirez and Jeff Baker also had a home run for the Cubs.

Notes

  • Soriano was pulled after striking out in the 6th inning and receiving a very loud ovation of boo’s from the Wrigley faithful. Soriano finished the game going 2 for 4.
  • Derrek Lee also left the game after aggravating an injury to his right thumb, however X-Rays were negative and he should be back in the lineup for the Cubs on Wednesday or Thursday.
