Can’t We all Just Stay Healthy

One of the Cubs main objectives this year, is to stay healthy. Well, so far they have not been doing a good job of maintaining that goal. As we have seen the likes of Angel Guzman, Ted Lilly, Xavier Nady, Mike Fontenot, and Jeff Gray all fall victim to injury.

So here is the latest on the injury report for the Chicago Cubs.

  • Backup shortstop Andres Blanco will be out the next 10 to 14 days, as an MRI revealed that he has a grade 2 sprain on his knee. This really puts a damper on his chances to make the team as Mike Fontenot will get an extended look at shortstop to see if he could handle the role as backup shortstop.
  • Angel Guzman is leaning towards undergoing potential “career ending” surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right shoulder. However, Guzman has not made a decision, and will seek the opinion of well known sports doctor, Dr. James Andrews.
  • Mike Fontenot was expected to be back in the lineup today, but both of the Cubs games were canceled today, meaning Fontenot will probably see time in tomorrow’s game.
  • Xavier Nady, who is rehabbing from tommy john surgery, is at least three games away from playing. Nady, whose arm is still not 100%, will likely serve as the DH in most of the Cubs spring games. However, he is expected to be ready on opening day.
