Well, Spring Training begins Wednesday for the Cubs, but over 40 players have reported early, anxious to get the new season started. Among those that are already there are Carlos Zambrano, Randy Wells, Sean Marshall, Jeff Samardzija, Tom Gorzelanny, John Grabow, Randy Wells, Sam Fuld, Tyler Colvin, and a plethora of minor league players within the organization.
Carlos Zambrano is said to be in greatest shape of his career right now. However he doesn’t have the mustache that he donned last year to spring training. But Zambrano from all reports does seem to be a lot more focused this year, as he is determined to have a rebound year this year.
Tyler Colvin also showed up to camp, about 25 pounds heavier. So we no longer will see the skinny boned player that we saw last year during september call ups. However it is unlikely that Colvin makes the team out of spring training, but he figures to get some time in the majors this year.
Bryan LaHair, who signed a minor league deal with an invite to spring training, has been launching “bombs” so far during all of his batting sessions. LaHair, will compete with Micah Hoffpauir, Brad Snyder, and Chad Tracy for a spot on the team as the left handed power hitter off the bench.
