Not Falling for it
I don’t know about you, but I’m through allowing the 2009 Cubs to get my hopes up, only to have them go into another prolonged offensive slumber.
I’m done allowing myself to believe that this team has one great run left in it, and that this run will be enough to get them into the post-season.
It would be a joke for them to get into the post-season now anyway. A team that’s mediocre most of the year, then gets hot at the end, doesn’t deserve to play in October.
But it’s a moot point because it’s not going to happen. They aren’t going to keep putting up runs like they did Tuesday against the Brewers (overcoming another dreadful Carlos Zambrano performance). They aren’t going to climb over four teams to get the Wild Card.
It’s September 16, and the Cubs are out of it. They are a disappointment. A failure. A flop.
Some fans will keep grasping at every straw, but I give up. Time to start thinking about April.
