The Brewers can feel their playoff chances dwindling away to nothing, which is why today they DFA’d Bill Hall, sent J.J. Hardy to the minors and canned pitching coach Bill Castro.
That’s not just pushing the panic button – that’s hammering it with your fist while screaming the safety word at the top of your lungs.
The Brewers will replace Castro with Chris Bosio on an interim basis, and will give highly-touted prospect Alcides Escobar the shortstop job while Hardy is down in Nashville figuring it out.
Who knows what effect these moves will have on the team. Maybe those guys will be shaken out of their complacency. Or, maybe the Brewers are just flat-out not a very good team, and all this is just desperate flailing around.
