A pretty good line for a guy’s debut game with his new team: 7 1/3 innings, 3 hits, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 K.
The guy of course is Tom Gorzelanny, the other lefty in the John Grabow trade. He made his first start as a Cub Tuesday night against the Reds, and as indicated above, was darn near dominant.
So far, so good for the Cubs‘ one big deadline day trade. And if Gorzelanny can keep pitching like that as the fifth starter (after Ted Lilly comes back), and Grabow proves a nice second lefty out of the pen behind Sean Marshall?
It still won’t entirely redeem Jim Hendry for the terrible off-season he had, but it will quiet some of the criticism.
Now if he can swing a waiver deal for a solid-hitting utility man…
