Outside of that little two-game blip against the Phillies, the Cubs have been experiencing an offensive resurgence in the second half. They kept the thunder booming on Friday against Dusty Baker and the Reds, pounding out 8 runs on 14 hits, and putting together a huge 4-run 8th inning to ice the game away.
Lots of different guys have been getting in on the act – even Milton Bradley is starting to swing it decent – but the hero Friday afternoon was Aramis Ramirez, who busted out the whuppin’ stick to the tune of 4 hits including a solo homer in the 6th. Actually, the Cubs in general had their big clubs out against Aaron Harang and Cincy, swatting three out of the park, including a 2-run job by Derrek Lee during that huge 8th inning.
Everyone knew losing Aramis was huge for this team, but now I think we’re seeing how valuable he really is. If he stays in the line-up, and produces the way he can produce, it will take pressure off everyone else, and finally the offense will hum along like it should. And with all the injuries on the pitching staff…well, they’re gonna have to pile up beaucoup runs if they want to keep winning.
