The Cubs took Game 1 of Sunday’s day-night doubleheader with the Cardinals, mostly thanks to Carlos Zambrano, who gave up 3 runs over six innings and hit the solo homer that put the Cubs on top to stay in the bottom of the 4th.
The Cubs got off to a great start for Z in the bottom of the 1st when Micah Hoffpauir – who as far as I know is not related to the Hoffpauir on the Cardinals – blasted a three-run shot into the bleachers. Z gave the lead back in the top of the 3rd, the big blow coming courtesy of Albert Pujols who slammed a two-run double into the leftfield corner. But that was it for the Cards’ offense. The Cubs would pull away with a 3-run bottom of the 7th made possible by a pair of Cardinals errors. The bullpen gave up nothing. Game 2 goes off at 8 ET. Get out the brooms!
