Cubs Salvage Game 3 vs. Brewers

Okay, I’ll say it:  the Brewers are better this year than I thought.  Yes, I was amongst those who believed the losses of CC Sabathia and Ben Sheets would be too much for this team to absorb – but the emergence of Yovani Gallardo has made up for some of that, plus, as we know, the Beermakers can flat out mash.  They’ll still probably have to come up with another arm if they hope to make a genuine run this year, but this is a team that will at least be around the .500 mark, and they will give the Cubs and Cardinals a lot of trouble as those two squads duke it out for supremacy in the division.

The Cubs, thankfully, were able to salvage the final game of this weekend’s set in Milwaukee, beating the Brewers 4-2 behind Sean Marshall and three relievers.  Alfonso Soriano stayed hot, blasting a two-run shot off Jeff Suppan as part of a 4-run third; meanwhile Kosuke Fukudome pulled out of his recent tailspin by going 2-3.  Oh, and lo and behold, Milton Bradley got himself a knock and a ribbie.  Maybe Milton finally woke up to the realization that this team really really needs his stick with Aramis Ramirez gone till July and Derrek Lee unable to stay in the line-up himself.  Let’s hope this is the start of a big stretch for Uncle Miltie.  I’m not holding my breath though.
