Joey Gathright Traded to Baltimore for Ryan Freel

The Cubs just got more versatile on their bench, by trading spare part outfielder Joey Gathright to the Baltimore Orioles for utility man Ryan Freel.  Mr. Freel hasn’t gotten much chance to do anything this year with Baltimore: in just 9 games, he has hit .133 with no homers and an RBI.  Freel figures to get plenty more playing time in Chicago though, especially at second, where Mike Fontenot has been struggling.  Lou Piniella must be really happy about this move, considering all the problems the Cubs have had keeping infielders healthy this year.  The hell of it is, had the Cubs hung onto Mark DeRosa, they never would’ve had a problem.  Water under the bridge I guess.
