The Cubs‘ winning streak went by the boards Tuesday with a 6-2 loss to Tim Lincecum and the Giants. San Francisco, who have been better so far than many expected, was aided somewhat by Lou Piniella who elected to pull a Gregg Popovich and go with the B team, starting benchwarmers Joey Gathright, Aaron Miles and the recently recalled Bobby Scales, who, at the ripe old age of 31, just popped his major league cherry (must suck being 31 and having everyone call you “rook” and “meat” and whatever other vile names the veterans use for the new guys). Maybe Lou should also consider giving more time off to Kosuke Fukudome who, after a second torrid start in two seasons, is dropping off again like last year. The split-squaddish Cubs lineup only mustered 5 hits off the Giants, who themselves somewhat pounded Sean Marshall, who was nevertheless able to hang in 7 innings and give the bullpen a rest. The Cubs next travel to Houston to play in their ridiculous phone booth-with-hill ballpark.
